….Six months after announcing it would bring its 1.5″-thick UltraThin line to the US, Hitachi is finally starting to ship product. Sizes range from 32″ to 47″ and 1080p from 37″ and up—previously we thought the line would stop at 42″. HD Guru tells us they don’t have integrated HD tuners, so you’ll have to use your cable box or spring $299 for a separate tuner. But hell, they are sexy, and they come with 120Hz image processing for better motion. The only thing remotely wrong with them is their high price: the top of the line 47-incher will set you back $4,700—and won’t be here until September. What’s that saying? Never too thin—or too rich? Specs, pricing and shipping dates of the full line below ….MORE…

The price above definitely kills this idea for me, but hey…who knows. Perhaps it will work for you.

Enjoy!

Big Moving Pictures (BMP) describes itself as “a rolling television network.” Basically, that means they deliver gigantic televisions, cameras and sound equipment to major outdoor events like a Blue Angeles flying demo to enhance the experience. Thanks to an agreement signed yesterday, BMP plans on kicking the entertainment factor up a notch or two by building gigantic, truck-mounted 40′ x 22′ HDTV screens and hauling them to a rock concert near you. When completed, the displays will be the largest mobile HDTVs in the world—and the first LED displays that provide full HDTV resolution in daytime outdoor environments …MORE….

…Now that LCD and plasma prices have come down and sizes have gone up, they can compete for the shopper’s dollar right alongside RPTVs.

There were a few considerations—or shall I say imposed restrictions—on the lineup here. The price had to be around $3,000 and the screen size as close to 50 inches as pricing would allow. Initially, prices were a lot closer than you see here; but just a few weeks before we conducted the Face Off, the RPTV prices plummeted. Sure, their 70-inch brethren would have been a closer fit price-wise, but I don’t believe people would cross-shop 50-inch and 70-inch displays. Only one display was allowed from each manufacturer, and when possible, the top of the line from each was included …..MORE….

The criteria and descriptions are very comprehensive; I learned a lot. I bet you will too!

Morning,

What if you wanted an HDTV that connected to the Internet and serviced all DVRs?

Here’s what one chap considered:

…But as much as I love my DVR (I’m devoted to it and I’m very appreciative of all it does for me), I have developed a bit of a wandering eye—for TVs that are connected to the internet.

I’ve recently started to focus on some of my DVR’s limitations. I’ve started to wonder if I can do better. For example, it really bothers me when the other love of my life, my wife, decides to watch a TV show and records another at the same time I’ve scheduled to record one of my favorite shows. My DVR can only record two shows at a time (including whatever I’m watching). Another thing that gets me upset is if I want to record a show on a different TV, it requires another DVR, and I can watch only what I store on that DVR on the TV it is connected to. I’ve begun to wonder if there is something better.

In Search Of …
At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, I strolled through Panasonic’s booth and couldn’t help but notice a very sexy and sleek 150” plasma TV. But what really caught my eye was another model off in the corner that a bunch of other guys were ogling. It was called a Viera TV, and it had a built-in ….MORE…

Definitely read the above article - it provides some very useful tips for Internet TV strategies.

Enjoy,
