The first TV that we bought had a manufacturing defect and couldn't be powered on. We were extremely disappointed because the picture quality, color was probably very natural among the other TVs at store and didn't want to miss on this TV. So we thought of giving it a second try. I got this from Costco and had the chance to compare the Toshiba side by side w/ the comparable 46" Sony, Sharp, Vizio & Samsung. The Toshiba & Samsung had the best picture quality & details in the blacks. No contrast ratio spec that I could find, however the darks have more detail than the Sony, Sharp & Vizio. I was able to pick this up at Costco at a lower price ($750) than any other 46" 1080p/120hz set I'd shopped for save the Insignia at Best Buy. After several weeks with the set it is a joy to watch and at this price point I am very happy to do without the first generation, ethernet based internet connectivity found on more expensive sets, especially since those same services are available with wifi on mid priced blu ray players.
